Versions of this exceptional and extremely rare Issey Miyake
F / W 1989/90 hooded costume not only made appearances on the catwalk and in the 1989 Fiat Uno
international commercial, but were also photographed
by Irving Penn and Yuriko Takagi AND worn by the inimitable Grace Jones. The costume is made of the typical finely pleated poly
fabric in metallic charcoal and includes a long skirt and long sleeve top
with the iconic super-large hood that can be worn up or down. the bottom. The
expertly crafted horizontal pleats create a variety of shapes
when the costume is worn, for example with the top on the inside or outside of the skirt - [2] ] Please see the pictures to get an idea. The two pieces slip on to wear;
the skirt has an elasticated waistband. 100% polyester, unlined. Made in
Japan. Without a doubt one of Issey Miyake's most iconic designs
and super rare - we've never seen a hooded version of these suits on
the market. Two similar hoodless sets from Miyake's F / W 1989/90
collection are held by the Costume
Institute at the New York Metropolitan Museum. Important Issey Miyake pieces reliably fetch five-figure prices
